Rubus ‘Amethyst’ – Purple Summer Raspberry – 1-Quart

A purple raspberry produced in 1968 by Iowa State University by crossing ‘Robertson,’ a shiny, blackcap raspberry and ‘Cuthbert,’ a red variety. ‘Amethyst’ is quite cold hardy (successfully trialed in zone 1 Alaska!) with extremely high yields of attractive, lustrous fruit. Will tip layer, like a typical blackcap, and so benefits from tip pruning in Summer and Fall. This will create a bushier plant with higher yield the following year. Fruits are sweeter than typical red raspberries. Starts ripening in early July with a 2-3-week season.
