Sarrarcenia purpurea – Purple Pitcher Plant – 1-Pint

$15.00

The only pitcher plant native to our area, this plant is an inhabitant of nutrient-poor, acidic, sphagnum moss bogs. The plant requires similar conditions under cultivation: a sunny, boggy spot with poor, acidic soil. This can be a natural wetland or a bog you create using a pond liner and a mix of sphagnum or peat moss and sand. These carnivorous plants obtain their nitrogen by capturing insects so do not fertilize them. The interesting red flowers are sweetly fragrant hence an alternative common name, Sweet Pitcher Plant.
