Scutellaria incana – Hoary Skullcap – 5-Pint

One of the more showy members of the genus with heavily branched inflorescenses of bluish purple flowers. The mid- to late summer bloom makes it a valuable source of blue color to combine with the predominant yellows and whites of Asters, Goldenrods, Silphiums, and Black-eyed Susans in a border or meadow garden. The name Skullcap refers to the covering of the seed capsule that opens in the Fall to release the seeds.
