Vernonia gigantea – Tall Ironweed – 5-Pint

$12.00

This magnificent plant is the tallest of all the Ironweeds. Brilliant reddish-violet flowers cover the tops of sturdy stems that rarely need staking if the plant is grown in full sun. It makes a great back of the border plant, as well as a focal point in the wet meadow. Butterflies can’t resist the flowers, so look for some of your favorites on this plant! Tall Ironweed is a rare species in New York – Ulster County is one of the few places it can be found growing in the wild!

Description

Aster family (Asteraceae)

We collected seeds from Ulster County plants in September and, assuming good germination, we should have local ecotype plants available by Fall ’24 – most likely in quart containers for $6
