Carex stricta – Tussock Sedge

$6.00$15.00

An essential component of a native bog garden, in the wild this is the most abundant wet-meadow sedge. Forms large, leafy clumps or tussocks. Sedge roots and rhizomes usually contain much more biomass than the visible stems and leaves. Over time biomass from Tussock Sedge can cause succession from wet meadow to drier grass meadow. Sedge seeds are eaten by Grouse, Turkey, Woodcock, and many songbirds. Tussock Sedge is a host plant for a small butterfly called the Black Dash, Euphyes conspicua.
