Description

While it will grow as a forest understory tree (as it does in the wild), best color is achieved by siting the tree in quite a bit of sun. In spring, flowers hang in long slender catkins and they remain ornamental through summer, fall and into early winter. Seeds are eaten by songbirds, game birds and small mammals. In winter the sinuous, rippled trunk, covered in blue-gray bark, gives rise to another common name – Musclewood. Avoid overly dry soil.
