Betula papyrifera – Paper Birch

$59.00$175.00

The white bark of many species of birch has long been prized for its ornamental value. Many of the species are of European or Asian origin and are highly susceptible to an insect pest named Bronze Birch Borer. Our native Canoe Birch is considerably less susceptible. Birches are cool climate trees – in order to thrive, they must be sited properly. A sunny, moist situation is ideal – avoid hot and dry. Birches are important hosts for a wide variety of moths and butterflies and their abundant seeds, which mature in winter, are an important food for overwintering birds like kinglets and chickadees.
