Ilex verticillata ‘Winter Red’ – Late Female Winterberry

$11.00$89.00

A deciduous holly grown for its showy display of berries from Fall through late Winter. This female cultivar is prized for its display of long-lasting bright red berries. Returning migrant birds often rely on Winterberry for sustenance in Spring. Needs a male cultivar for pollination and berry production – we offer either ‘Apollo’ or ‘Southern Gentleman’ – or perhaps you can rely on wild males if they grow within about 50 feet or so, some claim even 200 feet. The small greenish-white flowers are visually insignificant but are very attractive to native bees and other insects. If you have a good nose, you may notice a slight honey scent emanating from them.
