Myrica gale – Sweet Gale – 2-Gallon

$34.00

An excellent choice for a boggy area near a pond. Sweet Gale is a densely branched small shrub with gray-green leaves and seeds that form in little black clusters, almost like the pistillate “cones” of birch or alder. These are actually very interesting up close as the scales are really little U-shaped bladders that surround the seed like a life jacket, helping it to float off to shores unknown. This relative of Bayberry (Morella pensylvanica) is a boreal plant, adapted to cold, wet boggy areas in northern North America, Europe and Asia. Slowly suckers to form a dense colony.
