Prunus salicina ‘Methley’- Japanese Plum – 7-Gallon

$29.00$69.00

‘Methley’ produces heavy, annual crops of juicy, sweet, red-purple fruit with red flesh that ripen in mid-July. Japanese plums can be picked before they are completely ripe, since they will finish ripening off the tree. ‘Methley’ is self fertile and is a good pollenizer for other Japanese varieties, though it does bloom quite early in the season and you need to make sure varieties that need pollenizing are blooming at the same time. Japanese and European plums cannot cross-pollinate each other because they have different numbers of chromosomes. Japanese plums do best when trained to an open center and need thinning for proper fruit development.
