Pyrus communis ‘Moonglow’- European Pear

Though you may not have seen this variety in grocery stores, it’s one of the most fireblight-resistant varieties of European pear and a good choice for the backyard organic orchard. ‘Moonglow’ was introduced by the USDA in 1960 with parents that include ‘Bartlett’ and ‘Comice.’ It has medium to large, yellow fruit with a pink blush. Soft texture, sweet taste, no grit. Good fresh or for canning. It’s a good keeper and storage of 6 to 8 weeks helps it develop full flavor. This early season variety ripens in mid-August.
