Rudbeckia deamii – Deam’s Coneflower

A close relative of Showy Coneflower (R. speciosa) restricted to Illinois, Indiana and Ohio. Like Showy Coneflower, it’s a little bit taller and more drought tolerant than the commonly available cultivar ‘Goldsturm.’ The flowers are a little smaller but there are more of them over a longer season. Unlike Showy Coneflower, the cauline (stem) leaves of Deam’s Coneflower are similar in shape and size to the basal leaves. This is the best of the golden coneflowers for resistance to leaf spot diseases.
