Scutellaria × ‘Appalachian Blues’ – Skullcap

From retired nurseryman Peter Heus of West Virginia come this naturally occurring cross of Heartleaf Skullcap (S. ovata) and Showy Skullcap (S. serrata), both plants indigenous to the mountains of West Virginia where Peter’s nursery was located. The result of this cross? A clumping skullcap with spikes of bicolor purple and white flowers, a compact habit and serrated leaves with purplish  margins. It’s a looker! This is a front of the border perennial that will rebloom a little if deadheaded. Attractive to pollinators, bumblebees in particular.
