Vaccinium x ‘Northblue’ – Halfhigh Blueberry

A hybrid of highbush and lowbush blueberries from Minnesota that grows to 24-36”. Medium-sized berries have a wild blueberry flavor that is superb and superior to most highbush cultivars. The lowbush blueberry parentage confers cold hardiness to Zone 3 – ‘Northblue’ will succeed in high elevation Catskill gardens where highbush varieties fail to thrive. Or in containers on a patio at lower elevations, though a little rootball protection over the winter is still a good idea. Unusually large, glossy dark green leaves turn dark red in Autumn. Self-fertile, but yields improve when planted with ‘Northcountry,’ or any other blueberry variety.
