Larix laricina – Tamarack or American Larch

$11.00$34.00

Tamarack produces cones like pine, spruce and hemlock but unlike those evergreens it drops its needles in the Autumn. Botanists describe it as a deciduous conifer. Its needles take on glorious tones of gold and apricot, shown here, as trees gets ready for winter. Tamarack casts a very light shade and may be underplanted with acid-soil wildflowers and shrubs. In the Catskills, Tamarack occurs only in cool sphagnum bogs – if you want it to perform well in the home landscape grow it in a cool, consistently moist spot.
