Malus ‘Liberty’ – Disease-resistant Apple

The excellent flavor of this variety has made it the most popular of the disease-resistant apples. In taste tests, it usually outscores ‘McIntosh,’ one of its parents and even beats some varieties that are typically near the top of the heap like ‘Empire,’ one of our favorite apples. It ripens in mid-season, around the middle of September. It’s an early blooming variety and can pollinate all other early blooming apple varieties as well as varieties with mid-season bloom times. Besides immunity to apple scab, ‘Liberty’ is resistant to cedar apple rust and has fairly good resistance to fire blight. It’s a great choice if you want to grow apples organically.
