Nymphaea ‘Garry Wagner’ – Medium ISG Water Lily

Lily breeders have recently been successful in creating a range of purple-colored hardy lilies by hybridizing hardy lilies with purple tropical water lilies. The hybrids are termed IntraSubGeneric (ISG) hybrids. They seem to be just as cold hardy as the hardy lilies. ‘Garry Wagner’ is a Mike Giles creation (Mike being the first American lily breeder to successfully produce an ISG hybrid) and one of the first ISG hybrids. It’s a new lily for us Summer of ’23. We’ll see how it survives the winter, but since Mike created the lily in West Virginia, a similar climate to our New York climate, we’re optimistic it will survive the winter and we are hoping to have divisions available Summer of ’24.
